Industrial Food Metal Detector Calibrations and Training

The Bio-Terrorism Act has revolutionized the food industry. Security, Trace-ability and Risk management are now standard operating procedures.

It is of the up most importance that industrial metal detectors are checked on a regular basis by a trained professional, as most manufacturers use the same technology, the “balanced coil system” this technology incorporates an oscillator circuit and a receiver, if the receiver is not tuned correctly to the oscillator then the system will not perform as it should. Over time the characteristics of the copper coils and components within the detector head change causing a out of balance signal, this change in the characteristics of the coils and components is due to temperature, vibration and general aging of electronic components that are subjected to heat, as they are in a oscillator circuit.

Some manufacturers use automatic balance technology to overcome this problem, however it seems that with time, even the most sophisticated auto balance circuitries have a limit to how far they can auto balance a signal.

When the head is out of balance you will not get the optimum performance from your critical control point.

Maintenance and Operator Training

Fastec Services LLC provides training seminars at our facility in Charleston SC, we provide courses for maintenance staff and operators, teaching staff how to keep the metal detectors working at an optimum, more importantly, how to make swift corrective actions in a breakdown situation, quickly identifying the problem and reducing down time. Every attendee will have all necessary information and documentation to reduce the need for expensive OEM service visits. We will liaise with trained employees, 24/7 in a breakdown situation to quickly help identify the problem, ship parts and or remotely help fit parts from your recommended spare part inventory.

Note: These courses have proven to be very popular and successful; we’ve seen a noticeable reduction in the need for visits to locations where staff have attended our courses.

We have most current brands and models in our training facility, accommodating all the popular brands and also older analog systems, each employee receives a certificate of attendance and completion, These certified individuals are an asset to your BRC, SQF and or HACCP plan within your company. Shows due diligence and a desire for perfection in your company’s food safety HACCP plan.

Estimate 1 day per brand, we can accommodate 2 employees per session.

Maintenance and third party Calibration Training

Alternatively we offer the same course as above, however it’s a more detailed course not only concentrating on operation, fault finding and optimizing performance but also teaching the calibration procedure, we can train your employees how to perform the calibration procedure on each brand, trained individuals can perform the procedure on a annual or bi-annual basis, or as and when your standard requires, reducing or eliminating your need for third party metal detector calibrations. Each attendee receives a certificate of training on calibration for the brands within your plant. The procedure uses the manufacturer’s specifications. We provide all necessary service reports and ongoing support for all trained individuals. Some additional tools will be necessary to purchase and keep on-site.

A Dual Channel 20MHz Oscilloscope will be needed, other hand and specialized tools and components will be supplied to the attendees who attend the courses.

We have trained many individuals within large corporations to perform their own calibrations, reducing their need for OEM and third party calibration service visits and contracts.

The calibration training courses have proven to be popular with companies who currently perform contract services in food manufacturing facilities and would like to add metal detector calibration to their current abilities.

Estimate 1 day per brand, we can accommodate 2 employees per session.

For more information and to arrange training at our facility please call our office at 843-406-9745 stating the number of employees attending (Operators and Maintenance staff) along with your current brands and models of metal detectors.
